Discipleship Ministry

Leader: Pastor Herb

What is the difference between a “Discipleship Group” and a “Bible Study”?

A Bible Study focuses on God’s Word, obviously a great thing! However a Discipleship Group is more in-depth in regards to the daily lives of the individuals in the group. Our society, for the most part, has discarded personal relationships. We have replaced the front porch with Facebook. We have replaced nurturing and mentoring with superficial pursuits like sports, politics, and more technology. Discipleship is sharing our lives, encouraging one another (laughing, crying, hugging, and yes sometimes nudging those we love into the right direction). In Bible Study you have the ability to fade into the class.  In Discipleship you reveal yourself to other people who in turn reveal themselves to you, all in a safe environment. So if you’re tired of the status quo and ready for some personal growth, join a Discipleship Group!

There are various opportunities for discipleship at Bethesda.  Some areas of discipleship are as follows with more being added all of the time.

Wednesday Evenings Every Wednesday evening there is a Discipleship group that meets, led by Pastor Herb.

Emmaus Walk Bethesda is blessed to be affiliated with the Emmaus Walk of South Eastern Indiana. The church will sponsor willing 'pilgrims' for this epic spiritual journey which normally occurs in the Spring and Fall. If you are interested, see Dave Schuerman.

New Christian Discipleship
For new believers we have Survival Kits, which take you on a day-by-day journey with Christ. The material is provided for you to use. There are also people willing to help discipled you through this process. Pastor Tim also leads a small group study on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am.  This study alternates between "Bethesda 101" which is an introduction to how Bethesda operates.  And a study for new church members, looking at topics such as baptism, the Lord's Supper, and how the church is supposed to work.

One-on-one Discipleship "Iron sharpens Iron"
If you would like to partner with someone to disciple, to be a mentor, to help someone along the way. Or if you would like to have a partner who could help you along the way, let any of the elders know.
